I like knowing that I can use the Internet 24/7 to make money online promoting advertisers’ products and services. Several years ago, I started freelancing because I wanted to earn a living as an independent writer. I wrote articles for clients and earned a steady income, before I decided to create and monetize my blog with advertisers’ affiliate links. Recently, I wrote an ebook explaining how to make money blogging in less than 30-days (under the pen name Keith Meyers). If you’re a freelance writer, I’m sure you’ve read a number of articles about affiliate marketing programs too. Nonetheless, before I became an affiliate marketer, I read several intriguing articles about the topic. I was stunned to learn bloggers could earn well over $10,000 per month composing content for their blogs. Well from the start, I couldn’t believe what I was reading, but my curiosity got the best of me. So, I decided to experiment by joining several affiliate marketing programs like Commission Junction (CJ.com).
Hah! – Six months later, my blog hadn’t earned a single dime in commissions from CJ, and that’s when I started to feel as though the affiliate marketing industry was a crock of sh*t.
Then, I joined Blogvertise.com, and my blog began to earn monthly commissions from the advertisers’ links that I posted on my site. Unfortunately, the free blogging platform, Posterous that I was using to host my blog, unexpectedly shut down and my passive income disappeared too. Feeling frustrated about my loss of passive income from Blogvertise, I sought other ways to make money online. So, I began creating ebooks about my endeavors as a beginner blogger. I wanted to share my knowledge with people about the blogging industry, and how frustrating monetizing a blog can be when you’re broke, hungry, unemployed, and have a burning desire to make money online fast.
However, I kept my eye on the affiliate marketing industy and several years later, I noticed more and more bloggers were using social media networks to brag about how much money they were making using this and that affiliate marketing program. Large corporations were also approaching bloggers to join their affiliate marketing programs to promote their name brand products. Additionally, according to Amazon’s statistics, consumers were stoked about affiliate marketing and bought books, including digital media by the truckloads on how to become a successful affiliate marketer. I simply rolled my eyes and shrugged my shoulders after reading this piece of news. I still wasn’t convinced that I could earn a subtantial amount of money from affiliate marketing programs.

I also believe that when you are a newbie blogger or someone considering monetizing your blog, you really should have a substantial amount of traffic coming to your website first. That’s the key to earning a good passive income from affiliate marketing programs. Don’t do what I did in the past, and toss a bunch of cost-per-sale advertisers’ links throughout your blog posts. Why? – Because the majority of people that browse the Internet are not interested in your spammy looking affiliate links that scream open your wallet and “Buy Me Now!”
This is why It’s very important to find a niche topic for your blog, and a target audience that you’re trying to attract to your content. Then you can Introduce your audience to products and services that you think they would be interested in knowing more about. Subtle nudges about products and services throughout your blog posts can help your audience become familiar with what they could use to solve their problems and enhance their lives in a rewarding way.
Next, consider how much money each of your blog pages are worth. For instance, if you add three pay-per-click advertisers links on a blog page, you could earn $.10 for each click that the advertiser promises to pay you when your visitors clicks on their links. Which means you could earn $.30 cents from one visitor to your blog. The next thing that I suggest you do is follow someone online that you trust and feel is teaching you how to make money online. For instance, I’m a huge fan of blogging guru, Adam Enfroy because I like what he has to say about turning your blog into a profitable small business. His website is user friendly and easy to read.
Furthermore, if your blog has a steady stream of daily traffic, you could earn a good income from your content. It’s a good idea to keep your blog up-to-date with evergreen information that your audience can share with others. Nowadays, affiliate marketing [is] one of the best ways freelancers can earn passive income from their blogs. The more you learn about affiliate marketing, could in fact help you attract potential clients that are willing to pay you top dollar to hear what you have to say. Anyone who’s into the affiliate marketing game is always curious to know what are the best marketing strategies to use to make money online.
With that said, I am still learning how to use the best practical techniques to grow my blog audience. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my readers and helping them by taking the guess work out of learning how to make money online without having to deal with a lot of unnecessary challenges.
